City of Nanaimo – GIS Strategic Review

Forte Consulting was selected by the City of Nanaimo to conduct a strategic review of their GIS systems. The scope of this assignment included gathering current and future departmental GIS requirements, identifying and evaluating solution architecture alternatives that would meet the needs of the City, and developing a three year GIS Implementation Plan based on the recommended solution.

LIFT Philanthropy Partners (Formerly 2010 Legacies Now) – BC Activiyty Reporter System

Forte Consulting was selected by 2010 Legacies Now to conduct the detailed design and development of the reporting database, reporting engine and Internet mapping components of the British Columbia Activity Reporter (BCAR). The BCAR is being developed for use by 2010 Legacies Now, The Province of British Columbia, approximately 65 Provincial Sport Organizations and 15 Multi-Sport Organizations, and over 170 municipalities in BC. The BCAR system provides tabular and map-based reporting tools that allow end users to produce complex reports on sport and recreation participation information and census data based on various different types of geographic regions within BC.

BRITISH COLUMBIA MINISTRY OF natural resource operations, Integrated Land Management Bureau - INTEGRATED LAND AND RESOURCE REGISTRY

Forte Consulting was retained, as part of a Sierra Systems led consortium, to provide specialized spatial data management, design and application development services to the Integrated Land and Resource Registry (ILRR) Project.

The goal of the ILRR Project was to provide a single source for querying land and resource related rights and interests on crown land in British Columbia. This project involved integrating data encompassing over 300 different land interest types housed within 20 operational government systems that are being managed by 19 different Interest Granting Agencies (IGA) across the province.

In addition to overseeing the Data Management stream for the project, one of Forte’s key responsibilities on this project was the design and development of a suite of data “acquirers” that are responsible for extracting and transforming data from the IGA agency systems as part of a continuous live data feed from the various operation data environments to the ILRR.

Forte is currently responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of this application.

CITY OF YELLOWKNIFE ENTERPRISE GIS IMPLEMENTATION

Forte Consulting was selected to assist the City of Yellowknife with their Enterprise GIS Implementation. The scope of the initial implementation included developing an Enterprise GIS Implementation Plan for the City, as well as providing a broad range of consulting support in the areas of spatial data management, data modeling and database implementation, custom application development and training for City staff. This project also included the development of a Web-based mapping application for use by City staff and the public.

Forte also assisted the City in developing a phased approach to move their key operational GIS processes and data from a CAD-based environment to the Esri GIS environment. Critical City business systems such as the financial system were also subsequently integrated with the GIS.

Forte continues to support the City of Yellowknife’s GIS team with ad hoc data integration and implementation of system enhancements on an “as needed” basis.

BC HYDRO PROPERTIES INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Forte Consulting was selected to provide specialised business domain and technology expertise to support a review of BC Hydro’s incumbent Property Data Management Systems. This effort included compiling the broad functional requirements of the Property Services area at BC Hydro, and assessing the fit between their business requirements, BC Hydro’s corporate systems architectural standards and various commercially available vendor solutions.

In a subsequent engagement, Forte was retained to assist with the implementation of BC Hydro’s new Property Integrated Management System (PIMS), which is based on TRIRIGA technology and features a custom GIS mapping interface. Forte was assigned responsibility for the Data Management and GIS streams of this multi-million dollar implementation, and provided senior level subject matter expertise in the area of lands data management and related processes to the project.
